Encountering God at St. Joseph
We see throughout the story of the Jewish people (recorded in the Old Testament) that God wants us to encounter Him, not only individually, but as a larger community. Here at St. Joseph, we experience God as a community continually each Sunday during the liturgy (Mass), but we also have special times set aside that are focused intentionally on encountering God as a community. Please read below to learn more about the times we encounter God as a community here at St. Joseph.
Adult Faith Formation
Continuing to study the Bible and our faith as an adult is a vital part of Christian formation. Many times, Catholics are asked specific questions about our faith and are unable to answer because they have forgotten what they learned, never had the opportunity to learn our beliefs, or are unfamiliar with the current teachings of the Church. We encourage you to participate in our growing adult faith formation program.
Eucharistic Adoration
We have Eucharistic Adoration the first Friday of every month from 11:00 am to noon followed by Mass. There must always be someone present with the Lord during Adoration periods, and we usually request that two people are present just in case someone needs to leave. After spending time with Jesus in the Eucharist, we encourage you to end that devotion by attending Mass that same day and receiving our Lord in Communion.
On Thursday evenings, all parishioners and especially young people aged 18-35 are invited to join us for Young Adult Eucharistic Adoration in the Church from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. You do not need to commit to every week, but rather you can “drop-in.” All are invited to attend, even if you do not find yourself in this age group. Deacon Dennis Langdon is the Spiritual Director.
Not sure what to expect or what you should do when you come to Eucharistic Adoration? Often times, Adoration is a time of silent prayer and time spent with Jesus, but it can also include readings and singing. Larry Smith, President and CEO of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Denver, shared his experience of what it is like to go to Adoration with the Denver Catholic Register saying, "You let God fill your mind with whatever he wants. And you may not even know that he's talking to you. You may not recognize a single thing from God in that moment. But throughout the day, he's going to have other people talk to you. And it is going to blow you away. You'll think, where did that come from? And you're going to know: it could only have come from God." You can read his whole column here. You can also watch a video on Eucharistic Adoration made by the USCCB here.
Praying the Rosary
We recite the Respect Life Rosary the first Wednesday of each month at 11:20 am before Mass.
During the season of Lent the Rosary will be recited on Tuesday and Thursday in the Church beginning at 11:20 am before Mass.
Special Events
Frequently St. Joseph hosts special events geared at encountering God as a community. Examples of previous events we have hosted include taize prayer with icons and relics and short series on prayer and the acts of the apostles. Keep an eye on the Events page on our website and in our bulletin to see upcoming events. However, the best way to stay in the loop at St. Joseph is to connect with us on Flocknote. If you have not already joined Flocknote, you can do so at the bottom of this page.
