On-Site Ministries: serving the Parish
Outside of our music and liturgical ministries, there are many opportunities to assist the parish. One of our greatest needs is for teachers to be part of our Religious Education program. Listed below are some of the ongoing opportunities, but we often have need of volunteers on a one-time basis as well.
On-Site Volunteer Ministry
This ministry is for people who would like to be contacted about opportunities to volunteer at St. Joseph, but aren’t ready or able to commit to a monthly or weekly volunteer schedule. Whenever we have one-time volunteer opportunities, we reach out to this group through email with details about our current volunteer needs. This may include opportunities like handing out books after Masses, participating in an on-site service project, setting-up for the Parish Picnic or other event, decorating the Church for liturgical seasons, cleaning or light maintenance of the Church. There is no need to commit, or even respond, to every request. Just jump in whenever you can! Join the Flocknote Group “STJG On-Site Volunteer Ministry” to receive these emails (Be sure to join the volunteer group and not just “On-Site Ministries” which is just for organizational purposes).*
Baptismal Gown Makers
Baptismal Gown Embroidering
Each baptismal gown used at our parish is embroidered by a volunteer, usually with a symbol related to the Holy Spirit.
Baptismal Gowns for RCIA
The traditional white baptismal garment signifies putting on a new life – a life of purity and love of Christ. The making of baptismal garments is an excellent way for those who wish to be of service, but are unable to attend meeting, to participate in the RCIA program. Each person works on garments when they are needed.
Funeral Luncheon team
The Funeral Luncheon Ministry is comprised of parishioners who wish to give support to the families who have lost a loved one by providing a dish or serving at our funeral luncheons. A light luncheon is provided for family and friends of a deceased registered parishioner following the funeral service at the church. Those who have benefited from this ministry of compassion and healing have spoken of how nice it is to be able to gather with loved ones at a time of loss. This ministry is provided for registered and active parishioners.
Martha Ministry
Volunteers prepare food, set-up the environment, welcome the grieving, help serve, and clean up. It is a rewarding service to be able to offer the families beginning their mourning process. Please contact Carol Hartzell or Janet Erickson if you are interested in joining this ministry.
Dish Providers
Salads, side dishes, and desserts for the funeral luncheon are provided by this group of volunteers. Dishes can be homemade or store-bought and dropped off the morning of the funeral or during Parish Office hours the day before. We usually only have a few days’ notice before a luncheon, but we try to have an online sign-up posted as soon as possible. Please contact Audrey Goshorn at audreyg@stjoegold.org or join our Flocknote group "STJG Funeral Luncheon Food" if you are interested in this ministry. *
Gift Shop Team
St. Joseph Gift Shop is open before and after all the weekend Masses, on Tuesdays after daily Mass, and also during the week through the parish office between 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Our Gift Shop has a variety of gifts for all sacramental and seasonal occasions. Please stop by and let us help you find that perfect gift and card for that special occasion. Please stop by the gift shop and speak with any gift shop volunteer or email giftshop@stjoegold.org if you are interested in helping at the Gift Shop.
Religious Education
We have an amazing Religious Education program here at St. Joe's that guides our youth from pre-K through Confirmation. The students learn about our Faith, prepare for their Sacraments, and now closer to God. Barbara Loomis is Director of the Religious Education Program. Please contact her at barbaral@stjoegold.org if you are interested in helping.
Religious Education Teacher/Aide
Our Religious Education program runs September through April and meets on Tuesday evenings. Volunteering as a teacher or aide is a great way to share your faith with our youth. Our program includes youth from preschool through 12th grade.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
RCIA is for anyone thinking about becoming Catholic, for Catholics who were Baptized and now wish to prepare to receive the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation, and for Catholics who wish to learn more about their faith or return to the Church. Parishioners are called to serve as sponsors, catechists, pray-ers, and social justice advocates. Learn more about RCIA, here.
Vacation Bible School Teacher/Aide
Vacation Bible School is held for one week in June each summer. It is a fun week full of Bible stories, songs, games, and crafts. Any Religious Education student who is going into 7th grade or higher is welcome to come teach!
Youth Ministry
Our Middle School and High School Youth Group meets on Tuesday nights from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. We need volunteers to help lead activities and guide our youth as they dive deeper into their Faith.
